Swazi King’s Cup Golf Tournament Raises its Profile

The Swazi King’s Cup Golf Tournament in Banbane, Swaziland held every September; this year (2012) raised its profile by increasing its sponsorship money. Several companies like Swazi Spa Holdings; MTN Swaziland; Swaziland Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (SPTC); Nedbank Swaziland; Metropolitan Life Swazi-land, Times of Swaziland, Build It, Phakama Investments, Union Supplies, B3 and Premier Swazi Bakeries…part of a group of about 15 sponsoring companies mostly increased their sponsorship amounts to beef up this year’s profile of the Swazi King’s Cup Golf Tournament. The total amount raised therefore totaled 1.1 million Euros.  This amount is an increment of Euro115,000 compared to 2011.

The King’s Cup golf tournament is an annual event held in honour of His Majesty King Mswati 111 (who is both the Patron & Host). It is the largest golfing event in the country and has been running for the past five years.

The Swazi King’s Cup Golf Tournament officially known as “THE KING’S CUP GOLF EXTRAVAGANZA” attracts business people from neighbouring countries, mainly South Africa.

The tournament came about as the translation of His Majesty’s 2004 Job Creation Summit aimed at resuscitating the country’s economic performances, through foreign direct investment and sport tourism. It is hosted by the Swaziland Government in collaboration with the Swaziland Tourism in the Kingdom.
