“Our hearts are broken today”…Pres. Obama Sheds Tears over Death of 20 kids in the US

Following a senseless massacre in the United States on Friday 14th December 2012 that has so far left about 26 people dead…20 of them little children and about six adults, the President of the United States Barrack Obama in an emotional statement at the White House briefing room declared that “Our hearts are broken today”. During his statement he regularly wiped tears from his eyes.

According to Police report, a 20-year-old man wearing combat gear and armed with semi-automatic pistols and a semi-automatic rifle killed 26 people at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in a wooded corner of Newtown, in the US State of Connecticut.

Out of the 26 dead, 20 of them so far are children between the ages of 5 and 10. According to a spokesman for the State Police , the gunman was “chillingly accurate” in a very horrific scene in which he effectively chose his victims in two classrooms while other students dove under desks and hid in closets. This left only one person wounded and all the others he hit dead.

The gunman, now identified as 20-year-old Adam Lanza later committed suicide. Other reports have raised the death toll to 28.  These reports quote one law enforcement official who says a 28th person, has been found dead in a house in the town also believed to have been shot by Mr. Lanza. That victim, the official said, was Mr. Lanza’s mother, Nancy Lanza, who also worked at the school.

The killings come less than two weeks before Christmas. We can only imagine how these little kids had already started preparing to celebrate Christmas least expecting that, that day would never come for them just because, once again in the US, a madman has gone on the rampage. This massacre is America’s second deadliest school shooting. The first deadliest was the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre, in which a gunman killed 32 people and himself.

President Barack Obama vowed on Friday to “take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics”. While speaking, he frequently paused to wipe tears from his eyes. Mr. Obama added that…“The majority of those who died today were children, beautiful little kids between the ages of 5 and 10 years old. They had their entire lives ahead of them: birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own. Among the fallen were also teachers, men and women who devoted their lives to helping our children fulfill their dream.”

President Obama has ordered flags over government facilities to be flown at half-staff until sunset on December 18, 2012.
