Nigeria: 2 Policemen Arrested in Kidnapping of Finance Minister’s Mother

In the ongoing case regarding the recent kidnaaping of the 82 year old mother of Nigerian Finance Minister and former World Bank managing director Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, sources in Nigeria say two Police officers have been arrested on suspicion of alledgely helping the kidnappers involved.

On Monday December 10, 2012, the 82 year old Professor (Mrs) Kamene Okonjo … mother of the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was abducted from her home in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State”.

Up till the time of this report there was still no news of the whereabouts of Mrs. Kamene Okonjo. While authorities are still in search of leads and possible information, according to a local Radio, the Kidnappers are alledgely demanding about 2 million dollars. It is reported that the kidnappers also want the Finance Minister to resign.

The current health condition of the Minister’s mother is not known at this moment. The only fact is that the 82 year was already in a frail health condition before her kidnapping according to local reports.

The idea that  two police officers might have links to or had helped the kidnappers has left a very sour taste in the minds of many especially when some Nigerians have very little confidence in the police.
