King Mswati III of Swaziland yesterday Friday 19th April 2013 turned 45. Grand celebrations are planned and thousands of people will celebrate alongside him in the capital city of Mbabane.The widely loved and respected King Mswati III was born on April 19, 1968 as Makhosetive Dlamini. His birth name Makhosetive means “King of Nations”.
In 1986, he succeeded his father Sobhuza II as ruler of the southern African kingdom of Swaziland. He has been in power as king for 27 years. He is an integral part of Swazi culture and is part of the reason this nation of 1.3 million people is unique.
He is one of many sons of king Sobhuza II (his late father) who had about 126 wives but the only child of his mother Ntombi Tfwala, also known as Inkhosikati LaTfwala… one of his father’s younger wives.
Following the death of his father in 1982, he was introduced as Crown Prince in September 1983 but was crowned king on 25 April 1986, aged 18 years and 6 days. That made him then the youngest reigning monarch in the world until the ascension of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of the kingdom of Bhutan on 14 December 2006. He was also the youngest head of state until Joseph Kabila took office on 26 January 2001 as President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
