Is Nigeria Still the “Twins” Capital of the World?

In recent years, the town of Igbo-Ora was regarded as the ‘Twins’ (children) capital of the world. This trend doesn’t seem to have changed in recent studies.

The question scientists are still trying to answer is the reason for the concentration of ‘twins’ in one area or country. Extensive studies on multiple births have been conducted, showing that yams contain the chemical gonadotropins, which helps women produce multiple eggs.

But while scientists are thinking about yam as the culprit, the locals are not in any doubt as to what causes them to produce so many twins.  The answer to them is definitely “Yam”. The eating of Yam therefore could be the reason why Nigerians produce more twins that almost every other country.
