How to Elevate Your Self-Esteem

self-esteem-quote-7lSelf-esteem is a term used to reflect a person’s overall emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judgment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self. What do you think about your self-esteem? Is it low? If so what can you do about it?

1. Begin each day with an Affirmation

An affirmation is a positive declaration about you. Affirmations do not have to be long and drawn out, they can consist of something simple, while empowering. Examples would be, looking in the mirror and stating, “I Love Me!”, “I’m beautiful”, “ I’m blessed”, ‘I will succeed” etc. This is also called self-talk and it’s not being conceited; this is an expression of self-love.

Be creative and think of other positive things to say to yourself. Eventually, you will notice that you are smiling more often. This is a beautiful thing!

2. Eliminate Negative People from Your Immediate Circle

Negative people stunt your growth! Remove them out of your life! However, if they should consist of family members, just watch what you tell them. In order to surround yourself with positive people, you must first be one yourself. Reminder: you do not need to have a nasty attitude when you’re getting rid of them, be kind….but distant! Guard your dreams with your life!

3. Commit to Doing at Least One Positive and Helpful Thing for Someone

When we are not feeling good about ourselves, it is easy to attend a “pity party”.

However, try something different. Help someone else with something that will make his/her day. Before you realize, you will have a smile on your face.

Small tokens….well, they may seem small to you, but might mean the world to someone else. Helping the elderly across the street, holding the door for someone, volunteering at an after school program, helping out at a telethon or soup kitchen.

Be creative! I guarantee that you’ll feel on top of the world. It is when you’re feeling good that you allow positive and creative thoughts to flow.

4. Read at Least One Positive Thing a Day

Instead of watching television or listening to the radio read a biblical quote, an inspirational story, etc. when we see that others are attaining happiness, it gives us hope that we, too, can attain happiness as well. Practice this enough and you will begin to search for happiness in all aspects of your life. Once you are happier, you will begin to attract like-minded people and you will see your life flourish.

5. Learn At Least One New Thing Everyday

It is said that the more you know, the more you grow. Additionally, the more you learn, the more you will come to

realize how much you really do not know.

Learning expands the breeding ground for fresh ideas and cultivates new interests and friends. Learn something about your history, culture, why you celebrate the traditions that you engage in on an annual basis, the origin of your last name, etc.!

Make the commitment to learn something so that you will grow!
