Supermodel Naomi Campbell and American actress, singer, and former fashion model; Mia Farrow have testified at the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) that is trying Charles Taylor, former Liberian President (1997 to 2003), accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The request to appear before the court was issued on May 20, 2010 by the prosecution, because Naomi Campbell is suspected of having a large piece of diamond offered to her by Charles Taylor in 1997 in South Africa when, according to the indictment the former president was on a trip to sell or trade diamonds for weapons and also met with trafficker Nico Shefer.
The British supermodel has been accused by Mia Farrow and her ex-agent who were also present at a dinner hosted by former South African president Nelson Mandela in 1997, of receiving the piece of diamond from Charles Taylor. Prosecutors also asked the court to hear, Carole White, an agent model who was also present at the dinner. Naomi Campbell finally testified while Mia Farrow had testified in writing. The main reason for revisiting the Naomi Naomi Campbell gift is to confirm that the former Liberian President really trafficked diamonds to exchange them for weapons. So far Mrs. Campbell and Charles Taylor are denying the accusation.
