Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam (AFWA) 2013 ‘Avant Premier’ (Preview) initially scheduled for November 1st 2013 at the World Fashion Centre Amsterdam has been cancelled. The news about its cancellation was revealed in a Press Release sent to African Celebrities Magazine (ACM).
Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam (AFWA) founded and directed by young designer Miss Diana Tambe Blackpearl is an annual event meant to be one of the most anticipated events of the year. AFWA is a highly acclaimed Amsterdam based fashion event company with the goal of helping African and African-inspired fashion designers at every stage of their careers, to showcase their creativity and talent on a global stage.
According to the Director Miss Diana Tambe, The African Fashion Exhibition preview was intended to support designers, primarily through event management of fashion shows, catwalk displays, workshops and showcase events. It also provides the opportunity for the world to explore new and exciting fashion, but also allows designers to express their creativity within a professionally produced event environment.
The organizers state lack of sponsorship funds from some key supporters and financial difficulties as the main reason why this year’s event has been cancelled. The Press Release states: “An event of this magnitude needs the financial funding from the corporate world as well as the fashion industries and unfortunately the support needed did not come through”.
This was echoed by Diana Tambe Blackpearl while quoting- Robert H:…“I’d rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed.”
Refund of Registration Fee and Hotel Bookings
Everyone who has already registered for the event will be refunded their registration fees according to AFWA organizers. Likewise, anyone who has booked accommodation with any AFWA hotel partners will be refunded their bookings.
Next AFWA Event
The release states that the main event has therefore been postponed and scheduled to hold in Spring/Summer2014 at the World Fashion Centre in Amsterdam.
The organizers of the event are thanking everyone who planned to attend and are extending their apologies for this unfortunate conclusion. The next rendez-vous therefore is summer of next year.
